©2002, Celestial Navigator, 11.5 x 5.5 x .75 inches, museum board, acrylics, transfers, collage. I cut the museum board shapes out with a jeweler's saw. The hinge for the little front trap door in the head is paper, glued with PVA. It isn't strong enough and tends to come loose after it's been opened a few times. Every book has a few problems when it's finished, but this one has more than it's share. I do like the look of it, though. This book was included in Shereen LaPlantz's "The Art and Craft of Handmade Books." Not for Sale. Scroll down for more images.

Here is the cover with the two doors open. There is a spiral in the rectangular one that is hard to see. It has a hand, a ticket stub, some stars and other stuff attached to it.

I wanted a lot of moving parts, but paper doesn't hold up well to things like flaps opening. On the right you spin the dial in the head. Then you turn the dial in the body to the correct symbol to get a color and a word, written in Moon type.

On this next page you set the dial to the appropriate color, then read the chart. The instructions are on each page, also in Moon type.
